Global
HIV Vaccine Enterprise, Scientific
Strategic Plan (GHAVE 2010)
Developed by the Enterprise Council and
informed by the input of the Enterprise Science
Committee and more than 400 researchers,
policy-makers, funders and advocates worldwide,
the Plan presents a shared vision and strategy
to transform recent scientific advancements and
the momentum and opportunities of the past five
years into faster, smarter and more productive
research to accelerate the search for an HIV
vaccine.
Innovative
Product Development Partnerships - IAVI,
2010
This publication provides an overview of the
characteristics and key accomplishments of
product development partnerships (PDPs),
non-profit organizations working to fill gaps
in the R&D pipeline for drugs, vaccines,
microbicides, and diagnostics against diseases
of the developing world. PDPs collectively
share a focus on developing global health
technologies while building research and access
capacity in the countries that need them most.
IAVI developed this brief in collaboration with
the Aeras Global TB Vaccine Foundation, the
Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative, the
Foundation for Innovative Diagnostics, the
Global Alliance for TB Drug Development, the
International Partnership for Microbicides, the
Medicines for Malaria Venture, and PATH.
Engaging
the Debates: An Update on Innovative Financing
Mechanisms for Global Health - IAVI,
2010
This update supplements last year’s Policy
Brief on Innovative
Financing Mechanisms to Advance Global
Health. It further examines financing
innovations that could play a major role in
sustaining and increasing funding for R&D
of essential new biomedical products for the
developing world, including an Advance Market
Commitment, financial transaction taxes, and
the MASSIVEGOOD program.
Brazil:
Estimating the Potential Impact of an AIDS
Vaccine - IAVI, 2010
This brief investigates the potential impact of
partially effective AIDS vaccines on the
concentrated AIDS epidemic in Brazil. It also
explores various vaccination strategies. This
brief was produced in collaboration with the
Brazilian Ministry of Health, IPEC-FIOCRUZ and
the Futures Institute.
Enhancing
Brazil’s Capacity for Biopharmaceutical
Innovation - IAVI, 2010
This policy brief, produced through a
collaboration between IAVI, the Brazilian
Association of Collective Health, and the
Brazilian National AIDS Department, explores
how targeted policy reforms focusing on
collaboration, product development capacity,
and financing and regulatory coordination could
accelerate Brazil’s participation in AIDS
vaccine R&D.
Innovative
Financing Mechanisms to Advance Global
Health - IAVI, 2009
This policy brief reviews recent innovations in
health financing and new options under
consideration to address current funding gaps
that deter efforts to improve health in
resource-limited countries.
Spurring
Innovation for the Development of HIV and AIDS
Technologies - IAVI, 2009
This brief explores a variety of mechanisms
seeking to generate solutions to global health
problems, including the need for new HIV and
AIDS technologies. It includes recommendations
on how to create an appropriate enabling
environment for innovative ideas and
approaches.
HIV
Vaccine Research & Development: Modeling
the Path to Speedier Success - IAVI and the
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation,
2007
IAVI and the Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation have developed a computer simulation
model to explore the potential timeline for
developing an HIV vaccine, and to identify
opportunities for accelerating that process.
This analysis examines improvements that could
be made to the pipeline, and how strategic
investments could shorten the timeframe for
success.
Where
are We in the Search for an AIDS Vaccine? -
AIDS Vaccine Handbook, Chapter 2, AVAC,
2005
Where are we and what needs to be done?
Recognizing that an effective AIDS vaccine will
likely come step by step, this section
discusses where we are in the process and what
the next steps need to be.
Speed
and Equity: Why Political Leadership is
Important - The AIDS Vaccine Handbook,
Chapter 35, AVAC, 2005
The focus here is on the essential role that
governments play in mobilizing resources for
vaccine research and rollout and the
responsibility of advocates to engage
governments and policymakers.
Ensuring
Rapid Global Access to AIDS Vaccines - The
AIDS Vaccine Handbook, Chapter 36, VAC,
2005
While the development of an effective AIDS
vaccine is vital to the fight against AIDS,
unless the vaccine is made available to all who
need it, our efforts have failed. This chapter
stresses the importance of preparing for the
global delivery of a vaccine. This memo was
developed by vaccine and microbicide advocates
outlining model legislation for the US.
