How were the Good Participatory Practice guidelines developed?
Good
Participatory Practice Guidelines for
Biomedical HIV Prevention Trials is a document
that was drafted by a multidisciplinary
international group including community
advocates, research staff, and NGO
representatives. The group was convened by the
Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS
(UNAIDS) and AVAC. A draft version of the
guidelines was then further refined through
broad consultation involving a wide range of
stakeholders. The first version of the
guidelines was published in November,
2007.
The guidelines are intended to be a living document. It will only be useful if its contents are put into practice, evaluated, edited, updated, and made part of the ongoing dialogue around prevention research worldwide.
