Planned PrEP Trials

iPrEx open-label extension
An open-label extension or “rollover” of the iPrEx study will provide Truvada for HIV prevention for 72 weeks to all HIV-negative iPrEx participants who wish to wish to enroll. The goal of the study is to get information on how to improve adherence, and whether people are more likely to take the pill now that it has been shown partial efficacy in preventing HIV infection. It will also provide additional safety data. Participants who became HIV-positive during the iPrEx trial or between the trial and the start of the rollover study will also be eligible to join the trial for follow-up. This study is planned to begin in early 2011 and report its findings in early 2013. More information is available here (PDF)
