  • Though there is not a clear consensus on whether or how to implement PrEP in Europe, this new European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) meeting report details possible ways forward. The April meeting in Stockholm comprehensively covered the emerging issues facing PrEP implementation in Europe, including service delivery, costs and minimum standards. Given the different country contexts, it was agreed it is not feasible to make Europe-wide recommendations, however this report identifies priority issues and how ECDC might support EU Member States.

  • OPTIONS developed a literature review of studies, reviews and analyses focused on the impact, cost, cost-effectiveness, drug resistance and other parameters of both PrEP and microbicides. The aim of the review is to identify the scope of the completed PrEP and microbicide modelling as part of an assessment to identify current modelling needs and is being used to inform future modelling work. The summary document provides an analysis of the PrEP focused modelling literature.

This meeting brought pharmaceutical companies, public health experts, academics and leading scientists in the field of prevention research together with over 50 European community-based advocates for three days of information exchange and debate. This is the first video in a series.
